The majority of children who suffer from heart disease have a congenital
heart defect. These are structural heart defects with a born child.
Over 2,00,000 children are estimated to be born with congenital heart
disease in India every year.
About 1/5th of these suffer from critical heart disease requiring early
intervention.
Approximately 78,000 babies die every year due to congenital heart defect.
Congenital heart defects include holes in the walls of the heart, narrow
valves, valve leaks, and sometimes a combination of multiple defects.
Early cardiac screening will help diagnose the disease before the symptoms
arise at an early stage.
