Most of the heart surgeries, including CABG (Bypass Surgery) and Valve Replacements or Repairs, are performed by cutting and splitting the sternum (Breast bone), which can cause pain, cosmetic problem, limitation in activities and prolonged hospital stay.

KG Heart Centre is a pioneer in this part of India in regard to Minimally Invasive Heart Surgeries. Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) is a novel procedure which has revolutionized all forms of heart surgeries.

MICS procedure is safe and is without the disadvantages of the traditional form of cutting and splitting sternum. MICS Surgery involves making a small incision of about 4cm in size inside the chest to reach the heart. In this procedure, no bones are cut, and therefore, it causes minimal pain to the patients and facilitates an early recovery.

Most of the CABGs (bypass surgeries) are performed in Beating Heart, and Valve surgeries are performed under cardiopulmonary bypass.

Minimally Invasive Heart Surgeries have several advantages over the traditional types of surgeries as follows:

  • No bones are cut. So, there is minimal pain and an early recovery
  • There is no limitation for weight lifting and driving
  • Blood loss is very negligible
  • Cosmetically the incisions are very small and will hide below the breast
  • Reduced infection rate
  • Reduced ICU stay
  • Reduced hospital stay
