KG Hospital,a quaternary care,multispecialty hospital, has been at the cutting edge of medicine while staying true to its charitable mission and providing advanced yet affordable healthcare since 1974.

KG Hospital, run by K.Govindaswamy Naidu Medical Trust, was founded in 1974 by 'Dharmaveera' K.Govindaswamy Naidu, a leading industrialist and philanthropist from Annur village in Coimbatore district.

Dr G.Bakthavathsalam (MS, FICS, FCCP, FAMS), the Managing Trustee and Chairman of KG Hospital, has grown the hospital organically from a 10-bed hospital in 1974 to the state-of-the-art healthcare provider it is today. For his service to society, Dr Bakthavathsalam (fondly known as Dr GB) has received numerous coveted awards including Padma Shri Award from the President of India and Dr B.C.Roy Award from the Prime Minister of India.

KG Hospital has pushed the boundaries of medicine since its inception. Some milestones are:

First hospital in Asia to install 128 slice CT Scanner. More than 2,00,000 people have been scanned so far
For the first time in India, Awake Open Heart Surgery was performed
Performed a rare heart surgery first time in medical history on a girl with 5 heart defects
For the first time in India, a 2 day old baby was dialyses
First cadaver transplantation performed outside Chennai

Third time kidney transplantation was done on a soldier
World's first 4D ultrasound system with wireless transducers was installed at KGH
First hospital to introduce state of the art ambulance - responder 2000 - and emergency services in Coimbatore
First and the only hospital to currently perform Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgeries in Coimbatore. More than 200 surgeries have been performed with a 100% success rate (data: 2021)

Quality is the lifeline of the hospital - KGH is currently a NABH and NABL accredited hospital. KGH is the first hospital in this part of the country to receive the "Five Star Award" from the Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI) for practising the "5S" concept. The hospital is also the first hospital in Coimbatore to win the prestigious Platinum DL Shah Award from the Quality Council of India.

KG Hospital is also a Postgraduate Medical Institute and has trained over 300 doctors so far. The hospital has been recognised with the “Excellence in Teaching DNB Programs” Award from the Vice President of India & National Board. KG Hospital is also ably supported by KG College of Nursing, KG College of Physiotherapy, KG College of Allied Health Sciences and KG School of Nursing.

KG Heart Initiatives

- KG-Kalam Little Hearts Foundation: Through this initiative launched by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, former President of India, we have performed more than 500 free heart surgeries on children.
- 450 poor children with heart defects were operated under the noble scheme of Government of Tamil Nadu at highly subsidised rates
- Provided free heart surgeries for more than 1600 people along with Government of Tamil Nadu
KG Eye Hospital performed 85,000 free Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) surgeries to remove cataract on rural poor
Every month, 100 units of blood provided to children with Thalessemia free of cost
Over 6,00,000 people screened for hypertension via Free BP Clinic
3000+ free dialysis done as part of an ongoing charitable program
8632 free medical camps conducted in rural areas and >16,59,604 people screened free

KG Hospital has been a first responder during many National & State disasters

Coimbatore Bomb Blasts(1998): Only hospital in Coimbatore to bravely receive and save 250 bomb blast victims when all hospitals were closed
Kargil War (1999): Donated Blood and blood components and philanthropic financial support towards Kargil War Relief fund
Gujarat Earth Quake (2001): One of the first hospitals to rush to affected areas with blood components and medicines
Thane Cyclone (2011): Financial support to Hon'ble CM of Tamil Nadu's cyclone relief fund
Kumbakonam school fire tragedy (2004) - More than 300 units of blood plasma and drugs worth more than Rs 10 lakhs distributed

Tsunami (2005): As one of the first responders, our ambulances carrying drugs, doctors and medical staff were rushed to the site and our staff worked in the Tsunami affected areas for more than 2 weeks
Kerala Floods (2018): One of the first responder to screen ~10,000 people, distribute medicines and essentials
Gaja Cyclone Relief (2018): Distributed medicines and conducted medical camp in the affected areas for 10 days.
Covid-19 Pandemic (2020/21): Set up 150 bed KG Specialty Hospital (Saravanampatti) dedicated to treating Covid-19 patients. More than 3000 patients treated so far.
